Wedding Trends 2012 – Wedding Decorations

A very happy New Year to all of you! A big welcome to anyone that’s new to Wedding Planning Secrets – if you received a Christmas proposal congratulations! I’d love to hear all about it.

Over the next couple of days I’ll be looking at key wedding trends for 2012, starting with trends in wedding decorations.

While traditional wedding flowers will always be a popular way to accessorise your wedding, many couples are finding the florist’s bill is one of the items in their budget they need to forgo, meaning they are looking for alternative ways to decorate their venues.

Combining wedding decorations and gifts is becoming very popular, and centrepieces such as letter ornaments spelling out words such as ‘love’, or decorative birdcages, make fantastic gifts for bridesmaids or mothers to take home with them after the big day.

Sign and chalkboards continue to be popular into the 2012 season, and whether you buy them or make them yourself, signs can provide a fun and personal way for the couple to communicate with their guests as well as forming part of their wedding decorations.

Bunting has seen quite a revival in the last couple of years, and its popularity looks secure this year as it is an easy, effective, and relatively cheap way to decorate larger venues or outdoor spaces. The union jack motif was becoming popular even before the royal wedding, and with the Queen’s jubilee on the horizon you can be sure it will be incorporated into many wedding themes this year.
