Wedding Music Ideas – how to select the appropriate wedding music – part 1

Wedding Music Ideas – Ceremony

The style of wedding music that you choose to play during the wedding ceremony should be an expression of the bride and groom’s personality’s, personal taste and the overall wedding theme.

It’s very important to select the appropriate wedding music. The wedding music will create a pervading presence throughout the wedding, and on to the reception. Music creates an atmosphere an ambience. It will set the mood of your wedding celebration. If you choose wisely guests will remember and associate that music with your wedding day.

During the wedding itself, the choice of wedding music usually depends on the format of your wedding ceremony. Most church ceremonies don’t allow secular music. They stick to more traditional or religious music. Some churches have excellent choirs but you may choose to have a duet singing during the ceremony. A church organist usually provides the majority of the wedding music during the ceremony but some churches will allow recorded music.

Wedding Music Ideas – Reception

For the reception you have a choice of recorded music or live music. But first, you must check with the owners of the venue where you’re going to hold your reception, to see what type of live music they allow. Some venues have stringent restrictions when it comes to live music. The Band-200-102

If you opt for recorded music, it would be best to hire the services of a professional DJ. The advantage here is you can request to have all of your favorite songs in the play-list. Ask your friends if they know any good DJs that would be willing to play for wedding receptions. If they don’t know any, you could always just search the Internet, Yellow pages, or even contact your local radio station.

On the other hand, choosing live music offers you the choice of hiring a band, soloist, instrumentalists, jazz group, etc. It all depends on what kind of theme you have in mind for your wedding celebration. For more formal weddings, classical groups, piano soloists, and instrumentalists are more appropriate. It would not be a bad idea to also consider the sensibilities of your guests, to ensure that everyone has a good time!

You need to decide to what extent the entertainment provider will be involved with your guests. Are they just providing background music and later dance music or responsible for ensuring that your guests are having a great time and to keep the party going. The latter takes experience, a great live band or DJ is able to sense the mood of the guests and adapt to meet their mood and vibes in order to keep the party moving.

Wedding Music Ideas – the cost

As always we have to look at possible expenditure. A DJ is likely to cost considerably less than a live band.  A DJ is usually just one person or possibly two people while a band usually consists of an average of about five performers. Right there is where you will typically see a rise in cost because the fee charged by bands is usually split between quite a few people and therefore higher than the fee for one or two DJs.
