Wedding Trends 2012 – Wedding Stationery

Once the date is set and the venue booked, wedding stationery is often the first thing we think off when we’re planning a wedding. If the wedding is on a Saturday in peak season, or will involve travel for a number of guests, it’s fine to send out Save-The-Date cards up to a year in advance, so many couples choose their wedding stationery long before the bridesmaids dresses or the flowers.

Choosing wedding stationery can help you to make a number of decisions about your wedding. What will the colour scheme be? Will the day have a relaxed or more formal feel to it? Are there particular motifs you’d like to include in your wedding decor?

2012 looks set to be an interesting year for wedding stationery, as designs become more colourful and personal. Butterflies have been a key motif for several years now, and this looks set to continue, but birds of all shapes and sizes will be equally if not more popular this year.

With a trend for smaller weddings, some couples can afford to spend a little more on each invitation, and highly personalised bespoke designs are becoming popular. These can feature photos, artwork from the couple, or fun pictures that are a far cry from the bells and horseshoes of traditional wedding invitations.

For those that need to economise on their wedding stationery, DIY kits from companies like Confetti make a fantastic compromise, and the range of designs now on offer make this a great choice. Eco friendly wedding stationery is big news, and many companies offer sustainable products made from recycled paper, that have minimal environmental impact.

Overall wedding stationery designs are becoming more fun and less formal, and couples are putting a lot of thought into their wedding stationery to be sure that it works with their wedding theme, whether that is classic vintage or beach chic.
