Wedding Rings – styles have changed

Wedding rings are an essential item on your wedding shopping list and it’s worth spending enough to get decent quality as the plan is you’ll be wearing them for the rest of your lives!

Wedding rings are traditionally unbroken bands symbolizing the eternal quality of marriage, and are usually worn on the third finger of the left hand because in the past it was believed that the blood vessel in that finger led directly to the heart, although science has proved this to be untrue.

Until recent years wedding rings have tended to be fairly plain, perhaps a simple band with an engraving inside, but modern couples, including grooms, are choosing two-tone rings or rings with diamonds set around the band.

For brides the choice of wedding ring often depends on whether you’re planning to wear it next to your engagement ring. If you are you need to choose the same metal for both as different metals will wear each other down. You might also want to choose something simple that doesn’t upstage your engagement ring, and something slim enough to sit easily next to another ring on your finger.

Many jewelers create wedding rings designed to fit around an existing engagement ring to look like a single ring. There are also jewelers where you can spend the day making your own wedding rings to make them really personal to the two of you.
