Wedding Shoes – when to buy

Wedding shoes are as essential to the wedding outfit as the veil or bouquet, but they often get left until the last minute, meaning a rush to find the perfect pair. Ideally you should buy your wedding shoes before you have your dress fitting, so that the length of the skirt can be tailored to the height of the heels.

Most brides want their wedding shoes to perfectly match their wedding gown, which might be reasonably straightforward if you have a pure white dress, but will be trickier if you have an uncommon shade of ivory, pink or gold. For this reason there are many companies that will either dye wedding shoes to match a sample of material, or cover shoes in the same fabric as your dress.

Many modern brides are looking to create a statement with their wedding shoes and diamante details, elaborate corsages, or even feather features are taking centre stage in an arena that used to be governed by plain court shoes. Some brides are even choosing a contrasting color for their wedding shoes with metallic styles or that elusive ‘something blue’ being popular options.

Although many brides want some additional height on their wedding day, wearing sky high heels isn’t necessarily the best idea if you’re not used to them or you’ll be spending part of the day outside on a grass lawn or beach. If you do decide to go for high heeled wedding shoes make sure you also buy a pair of coordinating flat pumps or sandals to make sure your feet are up to dancing the night away.
